The Challenge: Precision Performance in High-Risk Zones

Emergency services and harbour patrols require a vessel that can respond instantly while maintaining the ability to operate in shallow or debris-heavy waters where traditional propellers are at risk. The challenge was to deliver a “rapid response” platform that combines high-torque diesel power with extreme maneuverability, all housed within a hull capable of professional-grade impact resistance. The ABCO Solution: Diesel-Jet Precision and Durability

THE ABCO SOLUTION

We engineered the 29’ DJ with a Volvo D6 370 hp electronic diesel engine paired with an Ultra Dynamic 305 waterjet. This configuration allows for “on-a-dime” maneuvering and rapid acceleration without the vulnerability of underwater running gear. The hull features a hard-chine design with lifting strakes and a proprietary “Epsilon” non-marking fender system, allowing the vessel to come alongside other craft safely during high-stakes boarding or rescue operations.

Key Performance Features

  • Tactical Propulsion: Powered by a 370 hp Volvo diesel engine and Ultra Dynamic waterjet for rapid acceleration and propeller-free safety in shallow zones.
  • Advanced Hull Integrity: Features three main watertight compartments, longitudinal stringers, and sound insulation held by perforated galvanized steel.
  • Mission-Critical Pumping: Equipped with a high-capacity 6,500 GPH triple-pump bilge system (one 4000 GPH and two 1250 GPH) with audible alarms.
  • Specialized Navigation: Integrated Raymarine C80 multi-function suite with 18” radome radar, GPS, and electronic charts for zero-visibility response.
Rugged Aluminum Hull
Certified Safety Standards
High-speed Interception

The Aluminum Advantage

  • High Strength-to-Weight Ratio: The lightweight hull allows the 370 hp diesel engine to achieve superior top speeds and faster plane times compared to heavier composite alternatives.
  • Fire & Impact Safety: Unlike fiberglass, aluminum is non-combustible and provides high energy absorption, protecting the crew and propulsion system during high-speed debris strikes.
  • Engineered Reliability: Aluminum’s resistance to UV degradation and hull-softening ensures the vessel remains mission-ready with minimal cosmetic or structural upkeep.

THE RESULT

By choosing a diesel-jet aluminum build, operators gain an asset nearly immune to the mechanical downtime associated with propeller damage or hull fatigue. The result is a high-speed, reliable platform that delivers maximum “on-station” time and the structural integrity required to perform in the most unforgiving marine environments when seconds count.
