THE CHALLENGE: PERFORMANCE IN DEMANDING COASTAL ENVIRONMENTS
Commercial aquaculture enterprises, patrol crews, and offshore sportsmen frequently operate across extended windows in punishing marine environments. They require a heavy-duty, larger-scale platform capable of navigating severe sea states at high speed while ensuring comprehensive crew shelter, navigational precision, and substantial fuel autonomy. The challenge was to build a lightweight, ultra-efficient hull under 26 feet that provides enclosed pilothouse capability without sacrificing high strength-to-weight performance or falling prey to the structural rot, weight gain, or gelcoat cracking common to fiberglass hulls.
THE ABCO SOLUTION
We engineered the 26′ “Work or Play” vessel using a rugged, continuous-welded marine-grade aluminum hull characterized by a lightweight profile optimized for maximum fuel efficiency and speed. Designed with a wide 9′ 4″ beam and a shallow draft under 1′ 6″, this advanced platform integrates a full-scale enclosed wheelhouse, a forward V-berth cuddy cabin with an integrated head, and a high-capacity 80 IG (363 L) fuel system. Dual 115hp Honda four-stroke outboards supply powerful, redundant propulsion, yielding an agile top speed of 33 knots for extended coastal or offshore utility.
TECHNOLOGY & SYSTEM INTEGRATION
Redundant Propulsion & Trim Integration: Dual 2 x 115hp Honda 4-stroke outboards integrated with a zero-flex transom plate and dual console-controlled trim blades to manage high-speed tracking, planning, and engine torque synchronization.
Advanced Navigation & Comm Suite: Full integration of a Raymarine C80 Multifunction display (combining Radar, GPS, Sounder, and Plotter with an 18″ radome and regional charts) alongside a Raymarine DSC VHF radio array and Ritchie Explorer compass.
Electrical & Power Management: Configured with two independent 12VDC marine battery systems, a dedicated terminal box, center-console mounted 12V power supply lines, and a master-breakered 10-circuit 12VDC distribution panel.
Climate & Visibility Integration: Two forward-facing resilient-mounted safety glass windows coupled with dual windshield wipers and an integrated washer system, alongside lockable sliding side windows and a sliding watertight Lexan door.
Sub-Deck & Accommodation Layout: Seamless interior structural layout comprising a forward cuddy cabin enclosing a V-berth, an operational head, a 19″ Bomar overhead hatch, and twin adjustable commercial helmsman/navigator chairs with integrated storage.

The Aluminum Advantage
High Impact & Fatigue Resistance: Rugged welded marine-grade aluminum construction yields high impact resistance and long-term structural integrity. It will not chip, rot, delaminate, or absorb moisture over decades of active service.
Weight & Fuel Efficiency: The engineered lightweight aluminum hull profile delivers a high strength-to-weight ratio, contributing to optimized fuel efficiency and achieving an impressive 33-knot performance threshold.
Non-Combustible Material Profile: The physical properties of the hull structure do not support combustion, ensuring enhanced platform and crew safety under rigorous multi-mission or commercial service duties.
Low Upkeep & Lifecycle Savings: Structural paint is required only for anti-fouling coatings or custom cosmetic aesthetics, drastically minimizing lifetime maintenance overhead while maximizing operational availability.
